Unseeded Ashanti No.1 Seed Causes Upset

It was all joy to some supporters but also total quietness and surprise at the Tennis Centre at the Accra Sports Stadium when the Ashanti regional number one Seed outplayed Super Cup number three seed, Felix Hammond in a straight set match.
Unseeded Albert Nti, a.k.a AKOKONAM managed to contain Hammond to a 6-3 win in the first set. The Ashanti Tennis Club member, began to upset his opponent gradually with ease on the backhand with lots of attacks, amidst drop shorts and overheads that put Hammond under pressure to create lots of unforced errors, sending him into the Second round of the competition with a 6-2 win in the second set.
Playmates of Felix Hammond in the National Ranking were in disbelieve to watch their colleague been mesmerized by an unseeded player who had not been participating in the rankings.
Speaking to the media in a post match interview, Albert “Akokonam” Nti expressed his gratitude to Ultimega for such a platform that had been created for players accros the country and appreciations to Translight Solar and other sponsors for the prizes for the players in competition.
One of the most interesting and dramatic game was that of Joy Oriako against Georgette Nortey. It was more of a long time grudge match between the two teenagers from the same camp of Coach Yahya Macaulay.
Though Georgette seemed to be the strongest in the game, Joy remained the most consistent from the start to the completion stage with a straight set win of 6-2, 6-1.
Due to the bad weather, officials of the tournament had to postpone most of the ongoing matches to the next day.
In other results, Roland Totimeh defeated Samuel Nyamekye 7-5, 6-3. Pascal Zaynab also defeated young Donatus Nyaba 6-0, 6-1 whiles Giovanni Adinyira was also defeated by Stephen Nortey.
More matches are still ongoing at the Accra Sports Stadium in Accra under the auspices of the Ghana Tennis Federation(GTF), with Translight Solar as the Headline Sponsor.
Other supporting sponsors include Stanbic Bank, Paradise Pac Mineral Water and Hollard Insurance.
